• A certified school nurse is on staff in our District's school. In addition to caring for children who become ill or injured during the school day, our professional nurse also conducts vision and hearing tests, maintains student health records, and confers with parents/guardians.

Our school nurse also plays a vital role in the teaching-learning process. The school nurse acts as an important resource in the development of a sound program of health education and family life education.

    MEDICAL POLICIES

All medications required by students must be administered by the school nurse under the following conditions:

    1. The medicine must be brought to the nurse in the original pharmacy bottle or container. The label must include the name of the doctor, the name of the medication, dosage, and duration of treatment.

    2. Parents or guardians must authorize in writing that the school nurse may give the medication and the time it is to be given.

    STUDENT PHYSICALS & SCREENING

All students are screened for height, weight, vision, and hearing.

Recent changes made by the New Jersey State Department of Education regarding student physical exams are as follows:

Physical exams required for school purposes may be done by the student's private health care provider or by appointment with the school physician. Students should obtain physical exam or sports exam forms from the health office to be completed by the examininge physician at the time of the exam.

Each student athlete must receive a physical exam from his health care provider within 365 days of the start of the first practice session for a specific sport. The school physician will review all reports returned to the health office at school. If a student's exam was completed more than 60 days prior to the first day of practice for a particular sport, a parent must provide an update of the student's medical history since the last physical exam.

All forms for regular and sports physical exams and health history updates are available in the health office. Please don't hesitate to call if you have any questions.

    PHYSICAL EDUCATION EXCUSES

Students may be excused from participation in Physical Education upon receipt of a physician's written note stating the reason for and duration of the excuse. A separate written note from the physician must be provided stating the date physical education participation may resume.
