HTEF is a non-profit organization that provides funding for programs at the Harding School. In addition to a major grant to implement the Attuned Minds program across the school curriculum, HTEF also supported a poetry residance, the annual Spirit Tree performance and training, various language and cultural field trips and the Renzulli computer based learning system.
The Foundation consists of an eleven-member Board of Trustees plus an Advisory Board. These individuals represent a cross-section of the community's interests and bring a broad range of professional talent and civic commitment. The Foundation is separate from the Harding Township Board of Education and the Harding PTO.
Since its founding, HTEF has funded 35 grants to the district. Grants are submitted throughout the year by faculty and administrators of the School. These have ranged from art, poetry and mathematics residencies to reading enrichment programs and special science workshops to science, math and music equipment. In addition, the Foundation funds two graduation awards for outstanding students in the fields of visual and performing arts. In 1999, the Foundation also established the Peter J. Eisele Award for Social Studies to recognize educators who, like the award's namesake, "make history come alive in the classroom."
The Foundation's largest single project to date is the renovation of the Middle School science facilities. The project included new furnishings, flooring and fixtures. The $125,000 campaign was launched in March of 2000 and successfully concluded in January of 2001, with the renovation expected to be finished in time for the opening of the 2001-2002 academic year. The lab will be dedicated as the Jim Stamey Memorial Science Lab in memory of the late science teacher and department chair at the Harding Township School.
