The guidance counselor is concerned with the academic and social progress of all students. Below is a sampling of the responsibilities of the guidance office working toward these goals.

New Student Group – Beginning a new school can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. Small groups organized by grade level will meet twice during the month of September. This gives students the chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and connect with new friends.

Small Groups – Organized on an as-needed basis on topics such as classroom behavior (K-2), social skills, and study skills.

Individual Counseling and Referral – Any student experiencing difficulty for any reason in school is always welcome to come meet with the guidance counselor. If necessary, a short-term counseling plan or outside referral will be made.

Private School Applications – All application forms must go through the guidance office. Teachers cannot fill out recommendation forms unless this occurs. It is preferable that parents make an appointment to discuss the applications and completed the required forms.
Complete information can be found on Mrs. Bewalder’s eBoard.

Liaison to Madison High School – The guidance counselor is responsible for communication between the 8 th grade class and the high school. Scheduling appointments with MHS guidance counselors will be held in February to begin the transition to high school! Stay tuned to Mrs. Bewalder’s eBoard for more updates.

Service Learning Coordinator – All middle school students are required to complete service hours in their community. This is organized and recorded by the guidance counselor.

Classroom Character Development Lessons – K-5 classrooms will receive lessons based on the Harding CARES program.

Please contact Colleen Bewalder at ext. 107 if you have questions or concerns.

we share in working together to be caring members of the Harding Community.
These key words will form the basis for Character Development Opportunities in our classrooms and throughout our school.
