Notan Positive Negative Designs

"Notan" is the Japanese word for the relationship between dark and light.
This use of light and dark translates shape and form into flat
shapes on a two-dimensional surface.

The students had the option to create Notan designs using only straight lines and geometric shapes; curved lines and organic shapes; or a combination of the two.
Their final goal was to achieve a balance between the positive space (white or light color)
and the negative space (black or dark color) .
